Anti-aging creams have been on the market since before recorded history. No one wants to look old, especially if they can do something, or use a product that will help to promote a more youthful appearance. It is recorded that a Hungarian countess even bathed in the blood of virgin peasant girls in an attempt to keep her skin younger-looking. (This does not work by the way!)
Anti-wrinkle creams are essentially moisturizers, with other ingredients to help raise wrinkles, and lighten, or even skin tone. The face tends to become drier as we age. A high-quality, long-lasting moisturizer can work wonders for the appearance and suppleness of the skin. The term "Vanishing Cream" was once popular for products such as wrinkle reducing creams. I can recall more than one "invisible" cartoon character from my childhood TV viewing, who used vanishing cream to disappear. Great humor in that. I love cartoons!
The best wrinkle creams and moisturizers contain the ingredient dimethicone. Dimethicone is a greaseless emollient that moisturizes without an oiliness, or greasiness. Modern anti aging creams are not as highly perfumed as the creams of the past. The ingredients are less smelly, so an obnoxious cover-up perfume isn't necessary. Some moisturizers have virtually no smell at all. Who wants to go around reeking of wrinkle cream?
Retinol, is an ingredient that has been proven to reduce pores wrinkles. Many anti aging creams contain this ingredient. Alpha hydroxyl acids are used to chemically exfoliate the skin. This removes dead skin cells, while producing a mild swelling of the outer layer of skin, which briefly raises tiny wrinkles. The effect is not permanent. This effect is enough to prove efficacy in clinical trials.
Many anti-aging products are meant to slow down the aging of the skin, rather than reverse it. They contain vitamins, anti-oxidants, and sunscreens. A big factor in the aging process of the skin is UV exposure. Protecting the skin from the sun, can prevent a lot of skin issues as we age. Remember that giant hat your grandma used to wear when gardening? Now you know why.
The most important thing to remember is that there are many different wrinkle creams for different skin types and different areas of the face. It is best to research out different brands before making a decision so that you know exactly which one to get. There are many great review sites availabe that show the positives and negatives of different brands.
